Common issues and solutions for Everything Presence One.
ESP32 LED Flashing
The LED on the main EP1 board will flash if:
The device is not connected to WiFi, OR
The device is connected to WiFi but Home Assistant has not connected to the EP1
This is normal during initial setup. The LED will stop flashing once Home Assistant successfully connects to the device.
Sensor Not Appearing in Home Assistant
Check WiFi Connection
Ensure the EP1 is powered (LED behaviour explained above)
Verify your WiFi network is 2.4GHz (EP1 doesn't support 5GHz)
Check that the EP1 is within range of your router
Try a different power supply - poor quality or noisy USB power supplies can cause WiFi connectivity issues
Re-adopt the Device
Go to Settings > Devices & Services > ESPHome
Look for a new device to configure
If not visible, try power cycling the EP1
Check ESPHome Logs
In Home Assistant, go to your EP1 device
Click the three dots menu > Logs
Look for connection errors or WiFi issues
Entity Shows "Unavailable"
This usually indicates a connection issue between Home Assistant and the EP1.
Solutions:
Power cycle the EP1 (unplug and replug)
Try a different power supply - noisy power supplies can cause intermittent disconnections
Check your WiFi router for connection issues
Restart Home Assistant
Check ESPHome logs for errors
Sensor Stuck on "Detected"
The sensor reports presence continuously even when the room is empty.
Common causes and fixes:
Cause | Solution |
|---|---|
Poor quality power supply | Try a different USB power adapter |
Ceiling fan in detection range | Reduce max distance or reposition sensor |
Detecting through thin walls | Reduce max distance setting |
HVAC vents causing movement | Aim sensor away from vents |
Reflective surfaces | Reposition to avoid mirrors/glass |
Vibrating mount surface | Mount on a stable, solid surface |
Tuning steps:
Reduce Max Distance to match your room size
Lower Sustain Sensitivity (try 4-5)
Increase On Latency to filter brief triggers
Sensor Stuck on "Clear" / Not Detecting
The sensor doesn't detect presence when someone is in the room.
Solutions:
Check your power supply - noisy power can affect mmWave sensor performance
Increase Max Distance to cover the full room
Increase Sustain Sensitivity (try 7-8)
Reduce On Latency to 0 for fastest response
Check sensor placement - avoid obstructions
Ensure the sensor is pointed at the detection area
False Positives from Pets
The EP1 will detect pets that move within its range.
Options:
Reduce Max Distance to exclude floor level
Mount higher and angle downward
Adjust Trigger Distance for initial detection threshold
Use On Latency to filter brief movements
Detecting Through Walls
mmWave can penetrate thin walls and detect movement in adjacent rooms.
Solutions:
Reduce Max Distance to stop before the wall
Reposition the sensor to aim away from thin walls
Use Trigger Distance as a secondary threshold
Temperature/Humidity Readings Incorrect
Calibration:
Use the Temperature Offset and Humidity Offset controls
Compare readings with a known accurate thermometer
Allow 24 hours for the sensor to acclimate after installation
mmWave LED Flashing Constantly
This is normal - the LED indicates the sensor is actively scanning.
To disable:
Find the mmWave LED entity in Home Assistant
Turn it off
Settings Don't Take Effect
For EP1, you must press the apply buttons after changing settings.
Remember to press:
Set Distance after changing distance values
Set Sensitivity after changing sensitivity values
Wait 10 seconds between changes. The mmWave sensor needs time to apply each setting. If you change multiple settings too quickly, some may not be saved correctly.
Reset WiFi Settings Using the Boot Button
If you need to reset the WiFi settings (for example, to connect to a different network), you can use the boot button on the EP1 board:
Locate the BOOT button on the EP1 PCB
Perform this sequence:
Press and hold for 1 second, then release
Press and hold for 1 second, then release
Press and hold for at least 5 seconds
The LED will flash 5 times to confirm the reset
The device will restart with WiFi settings cleared
After resetting, follow the Set up your EP1 device in Home Assistant guide to reconfigure your device.
