Troubleshooting

Troubleshooting

Common issues and solutions for the Everything Presence Pro.

Connection Issues

Device Not Appearing in Home Assistant

Symptoms: The Pro doesn't show up in Home Assistant after setup.

Solutions:

  1. Check network connectivity

    • For Ethernet: Verify the cable is connected and the switch port is active

    • For WiFi: Ensure the Pro is connected to your WiFi network

    • Check that the Pro and Home Assistant are on the same network/VLAN

  2. Verify ESPHome integration

    • Go to Settings → Devices & Services → ESPHome

    • Click "Add Device" and enter the device IP if not auto-discovered

  3. Check for IP address

    • Access your router's admin page to find the device IP

    • Try accessing http://<device-ip> in a browser

  4. Restart the device

    • Unplug and replug power, or press the Restart button in Home Assistant

Device Shows Offline/Unavailable

Symptoms: The device was working but now shows unavailable.

Solutions:

  1. Check power connection (PoE or USB-C)

  2. Verify network connectivity

  3. Check if the IP address changed (assign a static IP in your router)

  4. Restart the ESPHome integration in Home Assistant

Can't Connect via Ethernet

Solutions:

  1. Ensure you're using the Ethernet firmware variant (not WiFi-only)

  2. Try a different ethernet cable

  3. Test with a different switch port

  4. Verify PoE is enabled on the port (if using PoE)

  5. Try USB-C power temporarily to rule out PoE issues

Detection Issues

False Detections When Room Is Empty

Causes: The sensor detects movement or presence when no one is there.

Solutions:

  1. Check for moving objects:

    • Ceiling fans

    • Curtains near vents

    • Pets

    • Moving objects visible through windows

  2. Reduce detection range:

    • Lower Static Presence Max Range if detecting through walls

    • Reduce Tracking Detection Range

  3. Add exclusion zones:

  4. Lower sensitivity:

    • Reduce Static Trigger Sensitivity

    • Reduce Static Sustain Sensitivity

Misses Stationary People

Symptoms: Detection turns off while someone is still in the room, sitting or standing still.

Solutions:

  1. Increase Static Sustain Sensitivity (try 7-9)

  2. Extend timeouts:

    • Increase Occupancy Timeout

    • Increase Static Presence Timeout

  3. Check line of sight - Ensure no obstructions between sensor and person

  4. Verify range settings - Ensure Max Range covers the seating area

Slow to Detect Entry

Symptoms: Takes several seconds to detect someone entering the room.

Solutions:

  1. Increase Static Trigger Sensitivity

  2. Reduce Static On Delay to 0

  3. Check PIR Motion sensor - It should provide instant motion detection

  4. Verify orientation - Ensure sensor is pointing at the entry point

Zones Not Working Correctly

Solutions:

  1. Use the Zone Configurator to visualize real-time tracking

  2. Verify zone coordinates are correct for your setup

  3. Check that zones don't overlap with exclusion zones

  4. Ensure targets are visible in the Zone Configurator when you're in the room

  5. Enable Zone 2/3/4 entities in Home Assistant if needed (disabled by default)

Relay Issues

Relay Not Triggering

Solutions:

  1. Check Relay Trigger Mode is not set to "Disabled"

  2. Verify wiring connections at screw terminals

  3. Test with manual control via Relay Output switch in Home Assistant

  4. Check load is within relay specifications

Relay Triggers Unexpectedly

Solutions:

  1. Check the Relay Trigger Mode setting

  2. Review detection settings (false positives cause false relay triggers)

  3. Switch to "Disabled" mode and use Home Assistant automations for more control

LED Issues

LED Not Working

Solutions:

  1. Check LED Mode - Set to "Manual Control" for direct control

  2. Check LED Brightness - Ensure it's not set to minimum (0.1)

  3. Try Manual Control mode and control via the LED light entity

  4. Restart the device

LED Shows Wrong Colors in Automatic Mode

Solutions:

  1. For Environmental mode, ensure CO2 module is installed

  2. Check LED Brightness setting

  3. Verify sensor readings are accurate

Environmental Sensor Issues

Temperature/Humidity Reading Seems Wrong

This is expected behavior. See Hardware Overview for details on why these readings may be inaccurate.

Mitigation:

  1. Use Temperature/Humidity Calibration offsets to adjust readings

  2. Use an external sensor for climate control automations

  3. Consider these readings as "indicative" rather than precise

Illuminance Seems Off

Solutions:

  1. Use the Illuminance Calibration offset to adjust

  2. Ensure the light sensor isn't obstructed or facing a bright light source

CO2 Not Working

Solutions:

  1. Verify CO2 module is physically installed

  2. Ensure you're using the CO2 firmware variant

  3. Press the Calibrate CO2 button (requires 400ppm reference air)

  4. Wait several minutes after power-on for sensor warm-up

Firmware Issues

Can't Update Firmware

Solutions:

  1. Via Home Assistant:

    • Go to Settings → Devices & Services → ESPHome

    • Find your device and click Update

  2. Via Web Interface:

    • Navigate to http://<device-ip>

    • Upload the firmware file

  3. If device is unresponsive:

Firmware Variant Switch Not Working

Solutions:

  1. Change the variant settings (Network Type, CO2 Sensor, Bluetooth Proxy)

  2. Press Apply Update button

  3. Wait for the device to download and install the new firmware

  4. Device will restart automatically
