# SmartThings Sensors and Controls for EP1

Everything Presence One appears in SmartThings with separate tiles for its main sensors and controls.

## Main tiles

| Tile | What it means | Best use |
|------|---------------|----------|
| Presence | Overall room occupancy from the device | Use this for most automations |
| PIR Motion | Motion detected by the PIR sensor | Fast movement detection |
| mmWave Presence | Presence detected by the mmWave sensor | Stillness and fine presence detection |
| Temperature | Current room temperature | Climate automations and monitoring |
| Humidity | Current room humidity | Ventilation and comfort automations |
| Illuminance | Current light level | Lighting automations |
| LED | Status LED control | Turn the device LED on or off |
| CO2 | Carbon dioxide reading in ppm | Air quality automations, when the CO2 module is installed |
| Calibrate CO2 (Outdoor Air) | Starts CO2 outdoor-air calibration | Only use with the device in fresh outdoor air |

CO2 and `Calibrate CO2 (Outdoor Air)` only appear when the CO2 module is installed, EP1 is running CO2-enabled firmware, and SmartThings has detected the CO2 sensor. EP1 does not currently show a Restart Device tile in SmartThings.

## Which motion tile should I use?

Use `Presence` for normal room occupancy automations. It is the easiest tile to understand and is designed to represent whether the room is occupied.

Use `PIR Motion` when you specifically want quick movement detection.

Use `mmWave Presence` when you want to see whether the radar is detecting presence separately from the PIR sensor.

## Settings

EP1 settings in SmartThings include:

* Device address and port
* Occupancy off delay
* PIR motion off delay
* Temperature offset
* Humidity offset
* Illuminance offset
* Settings for tuning the mmwave sensor - see [How to Tune Your EP1 Sensor](/doc/c35cc882-bdcb-4c4d-b665-6394255673ab)

These settings are useful for small adjustments without leaving SmartThings.

## CO2 calibration

The CO2 calibration tile appears when the CO2 module is installed, EP1 is running CO2-enabled firmware, and the sensor has been detected by SmartThings.

To calibrate:

1. Move EP1 into fresh outdoor air, or place it next to an open window with strong outdoor airflow.
2. Power the device and leave it running for 3-5 minutes so the CO2 reading can settle.
3. In SmartThings, open the EP1 device.
4. Press `Calibrate CO2 (Outdoor Air)` once.
5. Leave EP1 in fresh air for another few minutes before moving it back indoors.

Do not calibrate while the device is indoors, near people breathing on it, or in a poorly ventilated space. A bad calibration can make future CO2 readings inaccurate.

For module setup details, see [Integrate the Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Module for EP1](https://docs.everythingsmart.io/doc/integrate-the-carbon-dioxide-co-module-Vy6NCfsTkE).

## Notes

SmartThings shows the most useful EP1 controls for everyday automations. Firmware updates, advanced diagnostics, and deeper tuning should be done using the recommended device tools for your setup.
