How to Tune Your Pro

How to Tune Your Pro

The Everything Presence Pro has two mmWave sensors with different characteristics. This guide helps you optimize both for your room.

Understanding the Two Sensors

Sensor

Range

Best For

Key Settings

Static (SEN0609)

Up to 25m

Detecting still people

Range, Sensitivity

Tracking (LD2450)

Up to 6m

Location, zones, movement

Range, Zones

Both sensors contribute to the main Occupancy entity, so tuning either can improve your results.

Quick Tuning Checklist

  1. Set Static Presence Max Range to match your room depth

  2. Set Tracking Detection Range to match your room depth

  3. Add exclusion zones for problem areas (windows, fans)

  4. Adjust timeouts for your use case

  5. Fine-tune sensitivity if needed

Tuning the Static Presence Sensor (SEN0609)

Range Settings

Setting

What It Does

Recommendation

Min Range

Ignores detections closer than this

Usually 0m (no minimum)

Max Range

Ignores detections beyond this

Set to room depth or slightly less

Trigger Range

Initial detection threshold

Usually same as Max Range

To apply range changes:

  1. Set your desired values

  2. Click Apply Static Range Settings button

Sensitivity Settings

Setting

What It Does

Higher Value

Trigger Sensitivity

How easily detection starts

More sensitive, more false triggers

Sustain Sensitivity

How easily detection maintains

More sensitive, stays on longer

Recommended starting values:

  • Trigger Sensitivity: 5 (default)

  • Sustain Sensitivity: 7 (default)

To apply sensitivity changes:

  1. Set your desired values

  2. Click Apply Static Sensitivity Settings button

Common Issues & Fixes

Issue

Solution

Detects through walls

Reduce Max Range to stop before the wall

Misses still people

Increase Sustain Sensitivity (7-9)

False triggers when empty

Reduce sensitivities, check for moving objects

Slow to detect

Increase Trigger Sensitivity, reduce On Delay

Tuning the Tracking Sensor (LD2450)

Detection Range

Set Tracking Detection Range to approximately your room depth in cm:

  • Small room (3m): 300cm

  • Medium room (4-5m): 400-500cm

  • Maximum (6m): 600cm

Zone Configuration

For precise control, use the Zone Configurator to:

  • Create detection zones for specific areas

  • Add exclusion zones to ignore problem spots

  • Visualize real-time tracking

Exclusion Zones

Use exclusion zones for:

  • Windows (people walking by outside)

  • Ceiling fans

  • Curtains that move

  • Areas detected through thin walls

Update Rate Settings

Setting

Trade-off

Tracking Update Rate

Faster = more responsive, more CPU usage

Target Update Rate

Faster = more HA database writes

Target Tracking Detail

More detail = more entities updated

For most users: Keep defaults. Only reduce if you have performance issues.

Timeout Settings

Room Type

Occupancy Timeout

Longer timeouts prevent lights turning off while you're still present but sitting still.

Combining Both Sensors

The Pro's Occupancy entity combines both mmWave sensors plus PIR:

Occupancy = PIR Motion OR Static Presence OR Tracking Presence

This means:

  • PIR provides instant motion response

  • Static sensor provides long-range stationary detection

  • Tracking sensor provides zone awareness

You can also use individual sensors for specific automations:

  • Use Motion (PIR) for instant-on lighting

  • Use Static Presence for long-range detection

  • Use Tracking Presence or Zone entities for location-specific triggers

Troubleshooting Detection Issues

Sensor detects when room is empty

  1. Check for moving objects (fans, pets, curtains)

  2. Reduce Max Range if detecting through walls

  3. Add exclusion zones for problem areas

  4. Lower sensitivity settings

Sensor misses people who are sitting still

  1. Increase Static Sustain Sensitivity (7-9)

  2. Ensure line of sight to the seating area

  3. Check Max Range includes the seating area

Detection is slow

  1. Increase Static Trigger Sensitivity

  2. Reduce Static On Delay to 0

  3. Ensure adequate Tracking Update Rate

Zones not working correctly

  1. Use Zone Configurator to visualize real-time tracking

  2. Verify zone coordinates cover the intended area

  3. Check exclusion zones aren't masking valid detections
