Quick Start (Home Assistant)
Follow the step-by-step guide to integrate your device with Home Assistant:
The Pro ships with WiFi enabled by default. After initial setup, you can enable Ethernet/PoE for more reliable connectivity.
FAQs
What makes the Pro different from EP1 and EPL?
The Pro combines both mmWave sensors found in the EP1 and EPL:
Static Presence Sensor (SEN0609) - Same as EP1, optimized for detecting very still people over long periods at up to 25m range
Tracking Sensor (LD2450) - Same as EPL, provides real-time X/Y coordinate tracking of up to 3 targets at up to 6m range
This means you get the best of both: reliable detection of stationary people AND precise location tracking within a room.
What's the difference between the Occupancy sensors?
The Pro provides multiple occupancy sensors for different use cases:
Sensor | What It Detects | Best For |
|---|---|---|
Occupancy | Combines PIR + Static + Tracking | General automations (recommended) |
mmWave Presence | Combines Static + Tracking sensors | mmWave-only presence without PIR |
Static Presence | SEN0609 sensor only | Long-range stationary detection |
Tracking Presence | LD2450 sensor only | Zone-based presence |
Motion | PIR sensor only | Fast motion detection |
Recommendation: Use the main Occupancy sensor for most automations. It combines all sensors for the best balance of speed and accuracy.
Can I use zones with the Pro?
Yes! The Pro includes the LD2450 tracking sensor which supports:
4 detection zones - Trigger automations when someone enters a specific area
2 exclusion zones - Ignore detections in specific areas (useful for windows, fans, etc.)
Use the Zone Configurator add-on to visually create and manage zones.
Should I use Ethernet or WiFi?
Ethernet/PoE is recommended for permanent installations:
Connection | Pros | Cons |
|---|---|---|
Ethernet/PoE | Most reliable, single cable for power + data, no WiFi congestion | Requires ethernet cable run |
WiFi | Easy setup, no cables | Can be affected by interference, requires separate power |
The Pro ships with WiFi firmware. After initial setup, you can switch to Ethernet mode - see Enable Ethernet & Optional Features.
What is the Relay Output for?
The Pro includes a solid-state relay output with screw terminals for connecting to alarm panels or other 12-24V systems. The relay can be triggered by:
Mode | Behavior |
|---|---|
Disabled | Relay stays off |
Motion Only | Relay activates on PIR motion |
Presence Only | Relay activates on occupancy detection |
Motion or Presence | Relay activates on either |
This allows the Pro to integrate with traditional alarm systems, door controllers, or any device that accepts a contact closure input.
See Alarm Panel Integration for wiring details.
What does the RGB LED show?
The LED can be configured to show different information:
Mode | Behavior |
|---|---|
Manual Control | Control via Home Assistant (or turn off) |
Presence | Glows when presence is detected |
Environmental | Changes color based on CO2 levels (requires CO2 module) |
Environmental + Presence | Combines both modes |
See LED Modes & Customization for complete details.
Are the temperature and humidity sensors accurate?
The Pro includes temperature and humidity sensors (SHTC3), but they may be less accurate than expected due to:
Heat from components - The Pro has two mmWave sensors, an ESP32, and potentially PoE circuitry, all generating heat in a compact enclosure
Mounting location - Since the Pro is typically mounted on ceilings or high on walls (for PoE/alarm wiring), it's in areas where heat naturally collects
Our recommendation: Use these sensors for general trends or relative changes, but don't rely on them for precise temperature control. Calibration offsets are available if you want to adjust the readings.
The illuminance sensor is not affected by these issues and provides accurate light level readings.
Can I enable Ethernet, CO2, or Bluetooth features?
Yes! The Pro supports enabling additional features from Home Assistant. You can change:
Network Type: WiFi or Ethernet
CO2 Sensor: Enabled or Disabled (requires CO2 module)
Bluetooth Proxy: Enabled or Disabled
See Enable Ethernet & Optional Features for step-by-step instructions.
Does the Pro work with the Zone Configurator?
Yes! The Zone Configurator fully supports the Pro. You can:
View real-time target tracking from the LD2450 sensor
Create and manage detection zones
Use all EPL-style features (heatmap, recording, room builder)
What power supply do I need?
For WiFi setup: Use a quality 5V USB-C power supply rated for at least 2A.
After enabling Ethernet/PoE: Use a PoE switch or PoE injector (802.3af). No separate power supply needed.
Can I 3D print a ceiling mount?
The Pro ships fully assembled in an injection-molded case - no 3D printing required.
An optional ceiling mount allows flush mounting on ceilings or walls, with proper routing for PoE and/or alarm wiring. You can either:
Download the STL files from Printables and print your own
Purchase a pre-printed mount from the shop
